Lighthouse Union Store

The Store is situated at 76 Otley Old Road in Cookridge.

It has been opened as part of Lighthouse School to provide a service to the community, as well as a base for young people with SEND to access supported work placements. Our post 16 students will all have opportunities for work experience, supported internships and further qualifications linked to the world of work. We has also partnered with West SiLC and Leeds City College so their students can access the work place with trained job coaches.

We are being supported by Filmore and Union for the café; Harrogate Candle Company and a York Chocolatier, and a range of other companies to supply the shop and create further links with the world of work. The café sells coffee, tea and soft drinks together with cakes, biscuits and cold food such as wraps. The shop also sells gifts, card and re-loved items that have been donated by a range of individuals and companies.

The aim is to create further micro businesses that will self-fund, to provide a range of vocational experiences and eventually paid work for SEND students. We want to avoid them becoming NEET because we believe they have talents vital for any work place. We anticipate our next venture will be operational in the spring term.

Please visit our store, enjoy a drink and some food, browse our gifts and re-loved items, and of course see our fabulous work placement students in action. Any donation of re-loved items are also welcome.

Please contact the store, or the school, for more information. We are happy to share in order to maximise opportunities for SEND students city wide.
