Job Vacancies – Tutors
The Head and Trustees of Lighthouse School are seeking to appoint Tutors of excellence with the drive, determination and creativity to enhance the lives of the students and families of Lighthouse School.
Lighthouse meets the needs of pupils with Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) who are aged from 11 to 19, ranging in ability from Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) to those operating at, and sometimes beyond, mainstream age equivalent levels. Pupils come from Leeds and other Local Authorities around West Yorkshire.
Lighthouse opened its doors to the first students in September 2012, with 7 pupils and is increasing the pupil numbers to 22 in September. As a Tutor at Lighthouse you will work closely with the teaching staff and senior Tutors within any one of the 3 class groups that will be in place from September 2013. We are looking to change the landscape in autism education in our area and become a centre of excellence in the field. We have a unique methodology within the school that has its basis in ABA, a scientifically proven autism intervention; and comprehensive training and on the job coaching and mentoring is provided. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for the right candidate. Could that person be you?
We require a Tutor who…
- Has a background or interest in Psychology with an interest in working with students with autism
- Will provide 1:1 and group instruction in a school setting as appropriate
- Will implement individualised learning plans
- Will track and monitor pupils progress on a regular basis
- Will keep all pupil data fully updated
- Will assist in keeping materials organised and accessible
Lighthouse will provide pupils with a unique curriculum, woven around the needs and strengths of the individual student and delivered by a skilled and committed staff team who place the student at the heart of all that is done. Autism specific interventions, teaching and support of the highest quality, individualised learning pathways within Lighthouse and those of our partner schools and colleges will provide a solid base on which all of our students will progress, thrive and achieve.
A wide range of motivating and inspiring learning opportunities, challenges and experiences await the students of Lighthouse; all of which are aimed at improving social, communication, life, self-help, academic and vocational skills. Our pupils will achieve carefully determined targets as they move through school and will be prepared for life after school. Independence and employability are the outcomes for our pupils at Lighthouse. Lighthouse will be proactive in supporting our community partners in understanding, preparing for and including our students into their settings, be that a school, office, university, shop, college or factory. The personal aspirations of each student and their families will drive our practice.
If you feel inspired by our mission and feel you have the skills, attributes and qualities to make a difference to the lives of our pupils, we would love to hear from you. Please feel free to telephone the Chair of Trustees or the Head Teacher to discuss the opportunities and challenges that may await you at Lighthouse on 0113 288 3556.
