Lighthouse News
Lighthouse News
At Lighthouse, we ensure that Lighthouse families are always kept informed about what is happening in school via various methods: e-mail, text, telephone, social media and school planners.
Parent Letters
Letters are sent home via e-mail for DfE and NHS advice / guidance, all school events and key information. For example Term Dates, activities such as World Book day, school fayres and external educational visits, including electronic forms of consent.
Newsletters
School Newsletters are sent out from the Principal each term (Autumn, Spring and Summer), to give families:
- An overview as to what has happened in school in the 4 Cornerstones: Curriculum, Wellbeing, Speech and Language and Skills & Experience,
- Information on events that have taken place during the term, including school trips, in -house events and fundraising,
- Guidance and support.
To support school’s commitment to Safeguarding, an Online Safety newsletter is e-mailed home each month.
Social Media
School has a Public Facebook Page which showcases what students are doing in school across the 4 Cornerstones: Curriculum, Wellbeing, Speeach and Language and Skills and Experience, educational visits that have taken place and up and coming events such as school fayres.
There is also a Private Facebook group for Lighthouse parents and carers to share information, experiences and to support one another. If you would like to join this group, please e-mail: beacon@lighthouseschool.co.uk
Text information
School uses text messages to inform parents/carers of urgent and important information and reminders of events/deadlines.
On rare occasions it may be necessary to close the school e.g. in the event of severe weather. When this happens, school will advise first contact parents/carers as soon as possible via text message. The information will also be on the school website/Facebook page. School closure will be posted on the Leeds City Council website using the following link:
https://www.leeds.gov.uk/schools-and-education/school-closures
Student Planners
Lighthouse students are provided with a student planner each year. This holds their personal timetable and key information about school, including the school rules, school uniform and school/home agreement.
Planners are also used as a communication tool between school and home. The engagement level required for each student is discussed with parents/carers and a student’s Key worker/SENCo/Key Stage Co-ordinator on an individual basis.
Keyworkers
Every student is assigned a key worker when they become a student at Lighthouse school, so the staff member can really get to know a student individually.
The key worker will build a rapport with the student, know their areas of interest and be a point of contact for parents, under the direction of the relevant Key Stage Coordinator.
School believes that the presence of a key worker for each student, helps students to feel emotionally secure when away from home and provides a reassuring point of contact for parents/cares.
Progress Reviews
Progress review day: School holds a remote Curriculum Subjects Progress Review Day in January each year which gives both students and parents/carers an opportunity to have a virtual meeting with their subject teachers. Each subject will offer a five-minute appointment that can be booked online prior to the day. Communication outlining the link to book will be-mailed in December each year.
On Progress Review day, the school site will not be open to students, but students are expected to attend the remote meetings with subject teachers and parents/carers. If your child does not accompany you to the meetings, they will be marked as absent for the day.
EHCP annual review meetings
All students have an annual review of their Education Health and Care Plan (an EHCP). Everyone involved with the student will be invited to the meeting, including parents/carers, school staff and other professionals. This is an opportunity to discuss the progress towards the student’s outcomes and agree on the next steps.
